Happy 18th Birthday, Zero!

It's been a good 18 years, Zero. You are such a pain in the ass that I assume you'll be sticking around for another 18...  :)

Thank You, Cardi Claus!

It was an exciting week in the Brews Brothers household: we received our Cardi Claus package!

Thank you to Lani, Ziggy, Rip, & their c*ts for all the great stuff!

Zero was especially happy that there was something special for her. And that it was edible. She did not let Squeaker in on the surprise.

I let Porter & Stout each open their own gifts.

Stout is not that experienced with (authorized) destruction. He was a little unsure that he could actually rip something apart in front of me...

"This smells really good... It must be a test of my Manners training!"

Porter showed him how it's done...

"Paw on the package, and PULL!"

Stout says "Like this?"

Porter says "No. Like this! Put your weight into it!"

"Ok, I get it..."

Porter tries to help  :)

The package even included a gift for the humans!

I just love the print - It looks like Porter out there tending his sheep. I'll just assume that Stout is just off to the left... eating sheep poo. Seems plausible  :)

Oh, and just a little story about our Cardi Claus, Lani  :)  I'm not sure if she remembers this, but we first met at the Cardigan Specialty agility trial in Kentucky way back in 2008. I remember because I was pretty new to Cardigans & agility. She was kind enough to film me & converse throughout the day. It was the Iowa connection that helped, too  :)

Happy Birthday Zero!

Happy 17th birthday to our favorite stripey cat, Zero!

In honor of her special day, we planted more catnip for her to harvest this summer.

She's obviously upset that we have taken this long to re-plant...

Squeaker came in for a nibble.

"Get out of my crop you little whippersnapper!"

"Ahhh, fresh nip..."

There's nothing better than a little nip in the sun.

She may be old, and getting senile, and a little blind, but she still enjoys the finer things in life: squawking up & down the halls at night, pooping on the floor, puking on the countertop, sleeping on the heat registers... We'll tolerate her for a few more years  :)

Zero's New Trick - Caught On Video!

It's not often that the blog veers away from the Brews Brothers, but tonight I just have to share this video of their kitty-sister!

Zero will be turning 17 next month and she has had this weird habit for as long as I can remember... She's actually doing it now as I type.

Zero is obsessed with what we call her "mouse-babies."

She roams around the house, carrying one in her mouth, and making these god-awful yowling sounds. It's pretty frightening if you don't know what she's doing. She has creeped out many house guests...

Zero with 2 "mouse-babies" - and the infamous platypus egg

All hours of the day & night (talk about creepy!) she would do this. But then along came Stout...

And he ate most of her "mouse-babies."

So she had to improvise. First it was small dog toys. We catch her carrying around that egg a lot (yes, it came inside a platypus toy).

But now it seems that she has moved on to bigger prey:

John filmed this the other night. That bunny is as big as she is!

I left the yowling on the end of the video for everyone's listening pleasure  :)

Does anyone know why she does this?

Soaking Up The Sun

Since yesterday was probably the last nice day we will have until spring, we let the old kitty sun her stripes as we did yardwork.

Zero preferred to be on the picnic table where she was not bothered by Stout.
She could still give him dirty looks though.

"Ahhhh"

Breading Cats

John began a new hobby today: breading cats!

He started with Zero and a tortilla. Tortilla kittehs are a little more rare.

For more info on breading cats, click on the following photos of inbread cats:

New Cruiser for the Brew Crew!

After much struggling to fit both corgis in our sedans (and much research into different models), I finally broke down and bought a new car...

Mazda 3
(See the house across the street with the recliner in the garage? He did our financing. Small world!)

This is where the corgis will ride, once we buy Stout a regular sized crate.
No more puppy crate!

But this is where they rode when we took them on the inaugural trip for ice cream!

And here's a little example of why Stout needs to ride in a crate...

He likes to use the "Stout perch" between the front seats.

We took them for Doggie Sundaes at Bruster's

It was Stout's first time  :)

Then we came home & watched Zero roll around in the catnip

Happy Birthday Zero Kitty!

Happy 16th Birthday to the most bad-a$$ stripey cat ever!

We got Zero way back during my college years. I remember going to the Humane Society where they turned us down for adoption (we were renters, college students, poor...). So off we went to the pet store where they asked no questions  :)

She was the only one awake in her cage, terrorozing her sleeping friends. That should have been a clue...

She survived a year living the college life with me & 3 male room mates. She does still sport the kink in her tail from that frozen can of orange juice falling out of the freezer...

She moved to Kentucky with me, riding 11 hours on the dash of a Ryder truck.

I remember taking her to the vet, dumping her out of the carrier, and the vet tech proclaiming: "My god, she swallowed a football!"

She continues to be an avid catnip farmer, sometimes actually sleeping the bowl so she can totally immerse herself in the experience.

When I took her to be spayed, I also requested that she be de-clawed. When I went to pick her up, they told me they were unable to do the declawing because they couldn't keep her under anesthesia long enough. Apparently she would awake and attack! They finally gave up. They couldn't get her out of the cage after her recovery either. She was a hellion. They sent me back there with some oven mitts, a towel, and cat treats. I came away bloody and battered.

Now she just has 1 fang left in the front. Our little snaggle-tooth.

She spends the bulk of her days now sleeping & eating (only the most expensive vet-prescription food of course), and pooping on the floor. Occasionally she still enjoys peeing in laundry baskets, boxes, and camping chairs.

Sunday in the Sun

It was such a nice day, we all spent it outside.

Porter pointed out that our Bleeding Hearts were blooming.

John strung up the twine for his hops.

Mesa came over to play while Matt & Megan took Dally to meet her ride to Reno!

The cats had a front row seat to all their antics.
