More Photos From the Canine Olympics

Just a little bit more from the Canine Olympics  :)

While we did debut our costumes in the contest, we did not win  :(

See that little lion/tiger thing behind us? It won.

It seems that John was correct, I didn't quite gauge my target audience correctly. Or maybe I should say, the judges were not in my target audience range  :)  All the teenagers there loved them. But the judges were... confused.

I had taken a photo of Miley Cyrus & Robin Thicke at the VMA's, just in case. Yep, still confused  :)

Oh well. Even if the weird little tie-dyed lion / tiger hybrid won, my friends came in 2nd & 3rd:

The Duck (Tolling) Dynasty member & a (Swedish) Minion!

Poor Mesa...  :)

And our friend Jodi with Maya & Dezi also won in another costume division:

Best Friends Obedience: 30th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday, the dogs, John, & I all attended the 30th Anniversary Celebration for Best Friends Obedience.

I attended my first agility class with Best Friends 11 years ago with my Pembroke, Rigue. Porter & Stout both enjoyed their puppy classes. And now I've been an agility instructor with them for 4 years.

To celebrate the occasion, they held a large picnic at one of the instructor's homes. There was agility run-thru's, obedience & rally run-thru's, a cookout, and even a bonfire.

Note Dally in the crate: she refuses to be in the x-pen with others.

I was in charge of the doggie games. So of course, I made sure we did the best game ever: the Weenie Bob!  :)

Porter held his own again in the Weenie Bob, but was narrowly beaten by 2 Aussies... by a half-second  :(

Dezi, Lili, Chance & Maya also came out

Check back Thursday to see Stout's favorite thing from the celebration!

Happy Birthday, Dezi!

On Friday night, the Brews Brothers attended the birthday party of their favorite Portuguese Podengo Potato, Dezi!

A cake from the Bluegrass Barkery!

The birthday girl: Dezi!

This wasn't just any ordinary party, there were plenty of fun & games!

Game 1: Chase the Podengo

Followed by Game 2: Smash the Podengo!

Resting between games...

Some more guests show up: The Stump Kids!

Game 3: Chase the Swede!

It really was an International Affair  :) Welsh, Swedish, Portuguese...

The Valllhund prepares to strike back!

After we (the adults) had eaten our supper, it was time for the best game of all: The Weenie Bob! We have to get them in fighting form for the Terrier Trial in 2 weeks  :)

Weenies? We're ready!

The first weenies didn't have a chance -
the pro's grabbed them before anyone else even saw them drop...

So the cardigans (& Lili) were pulled aside so others could participate :)
Mesa caught on...

Dally & Maya? Not so much...

So we sent in the clean-up crew to remove any stray weenies :)

Finally we ended the night with hats & cake!

The birthday girl

What a good girl! She didn't even nibble!

Ok, she nibbled some  :)

She wasn't about to let Porter have a nibble though!

At the end of the night we left her napping in the recliner.
A great party will wear you out!

Snowy Agility Practice

Well, we didn't actually practice agility in the snow. But we enjoyed the snow all the same!

I apologize for all the photos being so dark, it was about to snow again.

One cold paw? Or pointing to something under the snow?

"Wheee!"

Dog Park!

A few weeks ago (told you I was behind!), we took Porter & Stout to the dog park.

We met our friend Jodi at the small dog paddock. Jodi brought Lili the MinPin & Dezi, the Portuguese Podengo Potato.

We thought Stout would enjoy running off leash with his BFF Dezi.

 "Freedom!"

"Yee Haw!!"

Once Dezi got a little tired, Stout made Lili his prey.

Lili says "Save Meeeee!"

There were also frequent "terrier breaks."

No vermin were caught on this trip

Stout enjoyed showing Dezi his terrier side.

Porter only comes to the dogpark to hunt vermin.

Lili showed them how a real terrier hunts.

Notice the lack of Stout in the last few photos? He was on a "time out" in the car. Whenever he gets tired, he can easily cross the line from playing to fighting. Not every dog came to the dog park to be humped & harassed by Stout...

Stout Videos!

I thought we'd take a little break from vacation photos & post a couple Stout videos!

First, here he is playing with his newest girlfriend Dezi, a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno puppy.

Dezi held her own pretty well. Occasionally she would run under the bed to get away. That did not deter Stout, but it did slow him down considerably... Stout had quite a few "time-outs" too so to give her a break.

And I continue to work on Stout's agility foundation skills:

I had the jump chute set up for the class I teach, but thought it might be fun for Stout if I put all the bars on the ground (kind of like stride-work for him). I was really pleased that he chose to run down the chute instead of coming out to jump at the toy (or hump my leg).

We also worked briefly on our pre-homework for our Agility Foundations online class with Silvia Trkman. Class doesn't officially start until October 15th, but she gave us a few assignments already to prepare us for class.

I was working on the "burst of speed from a restraint" (my lame phrase, not hers). As you can see, it didn't go too well. He's not supposed to back out of my restraint  :)  But I'm not real comfortable with having a collar grab meaning that it's time for him to pull against it. So I thought a chest-type restraint would work better. Maybe not a good idea either, especially for a short dog...

The Battle of Wales vs. Portugal?

After obedience class, Stout often gets to play with his friend Dezi, the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno puppy.

"Play" is probably not the right word...  Things tend to get a little heated and the battle of Wales vs. Portugal breaks out.

Luckily Stout did not have to break out the big guns in the battle...
