Well, That Was Embarrassing...

Oh Stout... I don't even know where to begin...

I had my most embarrassing agility experience (to date) on Saturday at our local NADAC trial. I am still mortified. And still a little angry at Stout.

I'll just make it short & sweet: Stout knocked the wig off a bar setter in the ring.

Ugh. After that, I had no tolerance for his running around:

Throughout all the chaos, Stout did manage to qualify both days in Novice Tunnelers, thus earning his first NADAC title.

Porter almost got both Chances attempts  :(  So we still need 6 more for his NATCH. But we did knock out that last Jumpers Q!

I'm sure some day I'll find this funny. But not any time soon. Little jack ass...

  1. Oh, boy! That would be a bit awkward. Did being carried off affect Stout's attitude at all? I yelled at Jimmy for knocking a whole bunch of bars in class and he sulked quite badly. I regretted losing my temper.

    1. No, it didn't seem to affect him at all. That is our problem :)
Generally, all the chasing to even catch him is viewed as fun & a reward to him. That's why I rarely do it (plus he is hard to catch anyway...).
I'm really flummoxed as to finding an appropriate punishment... And whether there should even be a punishment, honestly. Agility should be a reward in itself :)
Back to the drawing board! :)

  2. It has taken Chase a long time to become a responsible citizen. I feel your embarrassment for his boy -- not much you can say or do when the dog pulls off a stunt like that.

    1. Thanks Penni. I think that is really the heart of the matter: he is just not ready for this :) As much as I love running with him, I don't want to dampen his enthusiasm by being angry at him. Especially if it is something he just can't help - not mentally mature enough to make appropriate decisions!
I love the little guy, but man, can he pull off some remarkable stunts!

  3. Wow, yes, that made for a very uncomfortable time. I have to work hard with my (cardi) Jimmy to curb uncontrolled craziness.

    1. It's a full time job, isn't it?! Curbing that Cardi-craziness... :)

  4. Sorry (SNORT . . . GIGGLE). I KNOW it's not really fun when you are the one handling the baddog, but . . . he's a baad baaad boy! (He was giving attitude at the start line--I knew this was not gonna be good!)

    1. Exactly!
And in her defense, the lady who lost her wig was awesome about it. But even if she wasn't embarrassed, she still had to put a dirty, dusty wig (that had fallen into a horse arena!) back on her head. As a former wig wear-er, I was embarrassed just imagining if it had happened to me!
I can laugh a little bit now... a little :) But mostly when I see people's reactions when I tell them about it :)
      He is soooo bad!

  5. Thinking about the chasing around just to catch Stout, what if you just walked to the exit? Ignore him running around, call him and just walk to the exit to grab his leash. Then you can do the carry off. I know it's a hard thing--I don't think the one time Dally got carried off affected her at all. It's hard to tell if they learn.

  6. My oh my.... lol It's hard not to laugh, but I'll admit that my insides just seized a bit when I think that I have intentions of entering Kizzy in her first trial in a couple of weeks. Ha!!

  7. I sorry :( But you will laugh soon enough! Certainly better than walks of shame for reactive barking at people!
